After President Gary’s warm welcome, Ilona hosted the meeting. It was her second time to be a Toastmaster of the Evening. First session was a warm up session, hosted by Terry, our PRVP, who just organized a successful event—Division E outing. He played a game, when we guessed the correct word, and we could get the chance to draw a piece of paper from a paper bag, the paper would show the winning points. At the end of the game, team A beat up team B. It was indeed an interesting and exciting game.
After that Kylie of Hsin-Chu club delivered her C1 speech. Kylie was actually a C8 speaker; she wanted to do C1 again so that we (Chungli TM) could get to know her better. In her speech we learned that she loves “Glee series”, the TV show, she performed a little bit of dance as her opening and her closing. It was indeed very impressive opening and ending. Thank you Kylie for coming over and delivering such an impressive speech.
The second speaker of the night was Griffy, he has just become a new father for a few months. He is quite busy with his baby daughter, yet he took his time to deliver his C3 speech. In his speech, he brought to our attention to the health problem. Keep going, Griffy, good job.
The 3rd speaker was Sabrina. She is a senior member from CYCU club, used to be a president of CYCU club. She delivered her C9 again, with the speech title of “The reason….”, the audience learned her motto, rather “brave & killed”, than “bored, die in the bed”? She wants to have a colorful life. We admired her spirit.
After that Ilona was worried that the 4th speaker of the night wouldn’t make it to the venue, fortunately, after 10 min. break, Alan showed up. Ilona teased Alan a little bit about his lateness. Alan as a new superstar of Chungli Club proved himself that he’s worthy of waiting. Audience had a good laugh, through his C8 speech, “Why Engineer needs a Girlfriend?” After listening to his speech, the audience, especially those engineers thought Alan should hold a workshop to help them out.
After that our MVP Jason, who was a variety session master in last meeting, he volunteered to be the table topic session master, prepared several interesting questions. For example, one of the questions was “What was the craziest thing you’ve ever done?” One engineer said “He worked with his computer for almost 24 hours” oh my… his reply provoked the audience…Then the engineer said again “The craziest thing he has done was that he went to celebrate New Year’s Eve with Emily and James and stayed up until 3 am”…(poor engineer, I won’t mention his name here.) “If you were able to travel to Mars and stayed there for one month, what or who would you bring?” Another engineer replied “a computer, and a bike.” Their answers made audience felt sorry for them. They do need Alan’s help. Luckily we had a sweet guest Merie she said that her best first experience was taking a police car when she was asked to be a translator in the police station. The best table topic speaker of the meeting, thank you Merie you saved us.
Then it came to evaluation session, the session was hosted by IPP Eddie, who is also the Area E1 governor (Chungli Club belongs to Area E3), he showed us the spirit of service. In this session, we could see that Eddie was well-prepared, he lead his team to give the speakers and session master both complements and valuable suggestions.
The first evaluator of Kylie was Kate, the flower of the post office, it was her first time to be an evaluator. Yet Kate did a good job, she analyzed Kylie’s speech in a structural way, she loved her speech, as well as she hoped that Kylie could talk more about herself, as the speech level was C1.
Next evaluator was Ellis, who got his CC within 3 years, a diligent and devoted member, Ellis thinks Griffy made a big progress. The speech was constructed with opening, body and closure. He wished that Griffy can hold the laugh until audience laughed, as well as, it would be better if Griffy could translate the advertisement quotation into English, as we are an English club.
Nai-Ling, our new member who transferred her membership from Taipei to Chungli, she loves Sabrina’s speech; she thought Sabrina has successfully caught audience’s attention. She loved Sabrina’s speech, and she suggested Sabrina pay more attention to the time (as her time record read 4’55), and with a slower speaking speed. Maybe it would be better to have more interaction with the audience, as C9 is persuasive speech.
The last evaluator was Orson, Alan’s individual evaluator. Orson the knock-door star mocked himself as a falling star. He gave Alan a highest compliment that he thought that Alan speech was a perfect one. He thought Alan’s body language, vocal variety, his message is clear and strong, draw the attention of the audience. The only suggestion he gave Alan was the sequence of slides and it seemed that Alan spent too much time on interacting with audience.
Eddie as a GE, he praised Scott Chen for his effort on memorizing the timing rule, as it was Scott Chen’s first time to take this assignment; and it was creative that Terry gave the chance to draw the points in the variety session; as for the table topic session master Jason, he thinks that Jason made another step further, judging by Jason’s performance of the night.
In the end, TME Ilona wrapped up the session by thanking all the assignment takers and participants. President Gary reminded everyone of joining Oct. 19 Division E humorous speech & evaluation contest in Hsin-Chu, to be cheer leaders for our two outstanding members Scott Wen and Orson Hsu.
