meeting agenda

The atmosphere was a little bit of frozen, nervous, and even a little bit serious. The venue was unusually quiet(what? Chungli club was quiet??). Yet, we couldn’t take our eyes from those sparkling stars…. We saw stars were everywhere in the venue….. So many stars were in our in-house contest on Sept 13. It feasted not only for the eyes….but for the ears. The superstar of the night was Caroline the Lt. Governor Marketing from District officer team, who received DTM in 3 years and 3 months. Wow, we were lucky to have her to be the Chief Judge in this in-house contest.

Our president Gary served as contest chair; he showed us the spirit of “A Toastmaster wears many hats”. After short and formal introductions of contest rules from the contest chair and the chief judge, the humorous contest began officially. Too bad Alan, contestant number one couldn’t make it to the venue in time. He was disqualified. Audiences felt sorry for missing his speech. But the dismay of the feeling was soon been cheered up by Diego, the contestant number two, shared his hitchhiking traveling experience in Australia. We learned the hitchhiking had a lot more to do than “thumbing”. It had something to do with appearance and location. We also found that Diego would be our future humorous star. He had gift on “acting” a good story.

The third challenger was Iris, our “little sun” showered us with her shining smile, and positive attitude. She shared us some of her interesting experience when she was doing “working-holiday” in Australia. Such as, once she was invited to a party and asked to “bring a plate”. She did bring “plates”, only found out that it was a little bit embarrassing that when an “Aussie” asked “bring a plate” it means “bring a dish”. J

The frozen atmosphere in the venue to this point was melted bit by bit. Then it came to the 4th challenger Scott Wen, who told us about his first 10-KM running experience. At the beginning, he enjoyed the beautiful sceneries--the backs of hot slim girls…. Then he was getting tired, later, he twisted his ankle. He was thinking of giving up; but with helps and encouragement from strangers he finally walked till the end of race. He got his medal. So in that evening, the audiences witnessed an arising star of Chungli Club. J

The last candidate was Scott Chen, who was indeed very brave, he did his C1(Ice Breaker) in the contest. We learned that he joined Toastmaster because this was something new to him, and he loved to take challenges. We had a good laugh on his speech. We learned that he would be another star in a near future in Chungli Club. What a wonderful speech contest! We were happy that we had discovered some more new stars. And they are ready to shine. J

After a short break, the second part of in-house contest, the Evaluation contest had been kick-off. Our target speaker Jim Chao who is from YZU Club delivered the test speech. His speech title was “ Try something crazy”. It was a really interesting story. Jim told us he joined the cycling competition that need to ride 300 kilometer in 24 hours. Wow, What a crazy race! He suffered from a combination of all-over body pain, exhaustion and cramp. Finally, He ran through the finished line after 17 hours.

After Jim’s test speech, Our evaluation contest proceed the evaluate part. Contestant number one was the celebrity of DIV E., Orson Hsu. Orson used I.D.E.A. and M.A.P. to tell Jim what he liked and suggested to his speech. What a well organized evaluation.

The number 2 contestant was our formal DIV. E Governor James Lee. James did not join the contest for quite a long time because he had served the DIV. E office till this term. He gave Jim very useful suggestion to improve the speech.

The number 3 contestant was Chungli Club’s secretary Ilona Chuang. We could tell she was well prepared for this evaluation. Because she dressed in a long and beautiful skirt to join contest. We seldom could see that in our regular meeting. Ilona also provided some useful tips to Jim.

The last contestant was Ellis. Ellis had served the Treasure for 2 continuous terms in Chungli Club. He was pretty familiar with the evaluation contest. He gave Jim very clear and sincerely suggestions.
